Fair Use Policy: reduced speed, never cut off

Subscription plans have no fixed data quota, only a fair-use threshold. Beyond it the connection is not interrupted; speed is reduced and returns to normal with the next billing period.

Why there is a threshold

Node bandwidth is shared by everyone. A very small number of unusually heavy users can crowd out everyone else, so the threshold exists to protect stable speeds for the vast majority rather than to limit normal use. Every threshold is far above typical usage for work, streaming and gaming.

What happens beyond the threshold

The connection is not interrupted and you do not need to do anything. Your connection is switched to a rate-limited state in which data still flows normally; when the next billing period starts, usage resets and full speed returns automatically.

How usage is measured

Usage is the total of upload and download bytes, tied to your account and added up across all your devices. It says nothing about what you access. You can see the current period's usage on the app's Plans tab to know how much headroom remains.

No threshold on Enterprise

The Enterprise plan is built for teams and organisations: it has no fair-use threshold and adds a dedicated egress IP and an uptime commitment.

Threshold per plan

Thresholds apply per billing period, with usage added up across all devices.

Key points

  • Standard 1 TB, Premium 3 TB, Enterprise without a threshold; trial follows the selected plan
  • Beyond the threshold speed is reduced; the connection is never cut
  • Resets automatically with the next billing period, nothing to request
  • Usage is measured in bytes only, never by what you access
  • Thresholds are far above typical usage for work, streaming and gaming
  • Thresholds and the rate-limit rule are public; changes are announced

Plan availability

The threshold depends on your plan, see the table above.

Frequently asked questions

More answers in the Support Center, or email us directly.

How long does 1 TB last?

At roughly 3 GB per hour of 1080p video, 1 TB is about 330 hours of viewing; everyday work, messaging and gaming use far less.

How slow is the reduced speed?

The rate limit is set system-wide and is enough for messaging, web browsing and audio, but not for high-definition video. The exact value may be adjusted with network conditions.

Which fair-use threshold applies during the 3-day trial?

The threshold of the subscription you selected applies during the trial. Beyond it, speed is reduced and the connection stays up.

Can I buy extra data?

Data top-ups are not offered at the moment. If your normal usage exceeds the threshold, upgrade to a higher plan or contact us about an Enterprise arrangement.

When does the threshold reset?

At the start of every billing period. On yearly plans the threshold is still counted per month.

More features

Every feature listed here ships in the iOS and Android apps today.

No activity logs

No browsing content, DNS queries or traffic destinations. Those fields do not exist in our database schema, and the build pipeline asserts it.

WireGuard protocol

An open-source tunnel built on modern cryptography: fast handshakes, a small codebase and low battery use. Key pairs are generated on your device and the private key never leaves it.

Smart routing

A weighted score across latency, load and packet loss picks the best node. Exponential-backoff reconnection when a tunnel drops, or choose by scene, country, favourites and recents yourself.

Several devices at once

Use one account on several devices simultaneously: 2, 4, 8 or 50 depending on your plan. Remove or migrate devices yourself in the app.
